'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith resumes clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he reminisces about the dramatic dying seconds of Swansea's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles after the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful shot from distance, and his teammate quickly slammed home the loose ball before racing off toward the crowd to celebrate, with the crowd mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result completed an extraordinary turnaround given the Welsh side had found themselves down 2-0 during the latter period. Amid the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a fan sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result secured a fourth-round fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with the London side in February. He had arguably the best view when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's volley from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've credited him for attempting the shot from that far out," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right defensive wing after the team changed shape. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way his former team approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and simple things, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they never miss a pass and they know how to control and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're all right and then suddenly they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and concentration just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to secure him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at his former club and has rapidly achieved similar status in his new home. At Orient he joined forces once more with his former manager, who four years ago gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in first-team action on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a spell at fourth-tier Salford City, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a slightly green going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without much intensity. There's not many hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

He has shown that development for both domestically and internationally, excelling for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has featured in the past five games, including two matches encounters against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a decisive through ball.

Early Days

It has been an incredible journey for the youngster from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his parent, his father, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's single match for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they competed on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was sealed owing to the weather of freezing cold. "This represented a long trip and it was chilly," he recalls, grinning. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I arrived at the moment where I understood I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I thought I needed to go my own route, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

New Environment

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the 24-year-old was a frequent passenger in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a small coach driven by club employees, the transport team, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to socialize with the lads but I'm hoping to be the following person to drive independently and on the road. His teammate enjoys practical jokes; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on public transport after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
